Dr. Covington-Ward receives the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Creating a "Just" Community Award in 2021 


Dr. Covington-Ward was recognized for her contributions to racial justice efforts on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. She was presented with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Creating a "Just" Community Award in 2021. Dr. Covington-Ward leads Provost's Committee that created the first required Anti-Black Racism course


Dr. Covington-Ward was asked by the Provost in 2020 to lead the Provost's Committee on Anti-Black Racism and Transformative Pedagogy, a group of faculty members, staff, and an undergraduate student who put together the syllabus for the first required course on Anti-Black racism in the nation. This course has become a model for similar efforts across the country and the lectures are open to all members of the public for viewing.
